Healthy Snacks and Muffins
Who doesn't love a good snack or muffin? I sure do! I love to grab a healthy treat whenever I need a little pick-me-up, during a hike or for a mid-morning treat, I love to grab one of my satisfying healthy treats. Many times I look forward to my snack time before breakfast is even over. My goal is to give you some ideas for healthy snacks and muffins.
Food is Fuel
We have all had those times when our hunger pains strike, our stomachs rumble and we quickly look for anything to fill us up. The easiest way to solve this is to grab a granola bar, cereal bar, or packaged muffin from your pantry. Most grab-and-go snacks and muffins are full of preservatives that "taste" good. The manufacturers make it easy and convenient for us. They are usually sold in large boxes and are shelf stable for weeks (or months). Did you ever wonder WHY they can this long in your pantry? Yup, you guessed it, preservatives and additives.
I try to avoid preservatives and additives as much as possible. So the next time you grab for that quick and easy snack, ask yourself what that preservative and additive filled muffin or snack is providing for your body. Is it adding fuel to your body to ensure it runs smooth and efficient? Or, are they simply filling you up until your next meal? One of my goals through this blog is health and fitness. Bringing healthy snacks and muffins to you is one piece of my goal.
YOU are worth it
What you put into your body reflects your health. From feeling sluggish to major health problems, if you eat an unhealthy diet that consists of "filler foods" as I like to call them, your health will reflect this. Filler Foods have little health benefit. These may contain junk carbs, sodium, saturated fats and sugars that may be doing more harm than good.
Don't feel like you have to stop with healthy snacks and muffins. Remember to look over my healthy dessert options.
NOTE: The United States allows many ingredients for consumption that other countries do not allow. It takes much research and education to understand it all. Consumers can easily be led into believing something is healthy when it's not. If you are interested in learning more about harmful ingredients that may be in your food, I encourage you to look into EWG (Environmental Working Group) which is a non-profit, non-partisan group who are dedicated in protecting human health and the environment.
End Note: One of our favorite healthy muffins recipe is the Healthy Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Muffin. My husband would have NEVER thought of eating anything pumpkin until trying these.
